It was a great night. I raised a total of $30,969 on the night, thanks to donations from the sales of Eight Homes, colleagues, business partners and contractors.

If you haven’t heard about it, this event was created to raise funds and awareness for homeless people nation-wide by challenging business and community leaders to experience homelessness first-hand for just one night.

The event raised over $615,000 in Victoria while across Australia, the Vinnies CEO Sleepout raised $5.2 million to assist the homeless.

These donations will help in

• Providing a meal and educational resource for a disadvantaged child
• Ensuring a family keeps its power on this winter
• Providing emergency accommodation and food to a family in crisis
• Relocating and establishing  a homeless person into one of the Society’s homeless accommodation services
• Paying the rent for a family facing eviction from their home

I believe, however, that a company’s success isn’t just about the bottom line. A business has to have a social conscience to be truly part of the community. This is why this year I am proud to announce that I am rising to the challenge again for the Vinnies CEO Sleepout, taking place Thursday, June 21st.

If you haven’t heard about it, this event was created to raise funds and awareness for homeless people nation-wide by challenging business and community leaders to experience homelessness first-hand for just one night.

I participated last year and it was an eye-opening and humbling experience that I will never forget. Through your efforts and donations we managed to raise over $21,000. This assisted in accommodating a thousand people a night over the year and helped break personal cycles of poverty through education, recreation and referral programs.

Today, there are more than 100,000 Australians who sleep rough each night of the year. Just under half of these are women and a quarter of these are under the age of 18.  They don’t have any of the things we take for granted like a roof over their heads or a bed to keep them warm through a cold winter night.

So this year, I’m asking for your generosity. Out of my appreciation for your efforts and my personal belief in this fantastic cause, I will also be donating $300 from every Eight home sold between May 16th to June 21st. My aim is to beat last year’s figure and dig even deeper!

So let’s rise to the challenge and dig deep.
